Vintage From Paul is delighted to offer these classicAlfred Meakin Fair Winds Friendship of Salem Blue Dinner Plates.

Alfred Meakin’s Fair Winds blue  transferware was made in Staffordshire, England & displayed life on the open seas with big sailing ships, sailors, crashing waves and other scenes that take one's mind far away to distant lands and adventures, facing perilous dangers such as waves, winds and pirates.

The patterns on the dinnerware were taken from original copper engravings depicting historical scenes of Chinese exports to America in 1830. The dinner plate had a beautiful rendering of the ship The Friendship of Salem, the fruit bowls depicted the USS Portsmouth off the Barrier Forts, and other plates, bowls, sugar and creamer, salt and pepper, gravy boat and serving bowls displayed other grand ships of the early 1800s. There were scenes of pottery making in Canton, exporters rowing to shore, Wall Street Harbor in New York with a unique cast of characters in strange and foreign costumes. .
