About the Buffalo Pottery (China) Company

The Buffalo China Company (Buffalo Hotel Supply Company, Inc.) was founded by J.D. Larkin in 1901. He began buying give away items from various manufacturers. He decided it made more sense for him to form his own companies to produce his premium give aways to sell his soaps & toiletries. So, initially, Buffalo China produced only premiums for Larkin's laundry soap. Shortly, thereafter, the items produced were sold just like any other company sells their wares and to be profitable. They were considered an independent company but they were owned by J.D. Larkin. A person could buy directly from one of his factories.

Some of the 'Premium-GiveAways' were furniture, buffets, chatauqua desk, food items, china, silver, piano lamps, towels, curtains, clocks, rugs, small appliances, jewelry, clothing, shoes, wallpaper, paint, and more. Wish we oftlinereceived such giveaways now days! For $10 worth of soap products, you could receive a Chataugua desk! There were 'Larkin Secretaries' much like Avon Ladies. The 'Larkin Secretaries' were encouraged to have a 'Larkin Home' meaning that their homes were furnished with furniture and belongings from his various companies. His idea was to have every home a 'Larkin Home'.

Buffalo China has always been known for its quality and durability. They produced china for restaurants, hotels, individual home use, china for children, and much more. Unlike a lot of other manufacturers, Buffalo China‘s ownership changed very little - John D. Larkin owned and ran his company for years. In 1962, Allegheny China of Warren, Pennsylvania was purchased as a wholly owned subsidiary. Harold M. Easty, Jr., grandson of John D. Larkin oversaw the company as president in the 1960's and early 1970's. Then Buffalo China became a subsidiary of Oneida, Ltd. of Oneida, New York on November 29, 1983. Buffalo China is a part of our American history as well as the history of china and restaurant ware..
