We are delighted to offer this lovely royal vitreous, hexagonal plate from John Maddock and Sons commemorating the Coronation of King George in 1937.

The death of George V, followed the same year by the abdication of Edward VIII and the accession to the Throne by George VI created an array of commemorative items by the English, German and even Canadian china and pottery manufacturers.

The outer verge of the Maddock King George VI Royal Vitreous Coronation Plate is two stripes, one in a deep cobalt, the other in a blood red. the inner verge is a smaller blood red stripe.

Naturally, the focal point of the plate is the center graphic. There are two ovals which have sepia prints, one of King George VI the other his wife Queen Elizabeth...the current Queen Mothers parents. Behind these images there are the flags of Britain, furled at 45 degree angles. In the center there if a crown under which the year 1937 is printed. Between the sepia images there is a floral design and a banner which reads " King George VI, Coronation, Queen Elizabeth, Long May They reign."

The back of the Maddock King George VI Royal Vitreous Coronation Plate has several markings, the first of which is colored in gold, red and blue, having 2 flags of Britain and between the flags a crown and "GR VI". The second is done in black and reads "John Maddock and Sons Ltd., Royal Vitreous, Made in England. the third is an impressed mark of a crown and under the crown "XXIV".

The Maddock King George VI Royal Vitreous Coronation Plate measures 8-5/8 inches in diameter. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or wear to the graphics. The colors are vibrant, the graphics crisp. It does show very minor crazing however, which did not show in the photos it being light.
