We are pleased to offer this vintage Mehun Style Wildflower Milk Jug manufactured exclusively for Hoan from renowned Pillivuyt of France.

The pattern is a lovely rendering of wildflowers done in red, yellow, blue, gold and green, set against the pristine white body.

Named for the town of their birth, Mehun-sur-Tevre, the tiny town in the heart of France where Pillivuyt porcelain has been produced for almost 200 years. Note the construction of the handle which flows in a continuous line with the body of the jugs, ensuring that it will not crack or separate from the piece.

The Pillivuyt Wildflower Mehun Style Milk Jug stands 5-1/2 inches in height, measures 5 inches from handle to spout. The Milk Jug has a 16 fluid ounce capacity.

The Pillivuyt Wildflower Mehun Style Milk Jug is marked in green with "Pillivuyt France,832" and in gold with "Made in France for Hoan"

For decades the Hoan brand has meant that any household can afford fine quality kitchen tools designed with style. Hoan stands for Housewares Of All Nations, and was/is a major importer of the best brands around the world.

The Pillivuyt Wildflower Mehun Style Milk Jug is without defect, the graphics are crisp, the colors vibrant.

In 1818 Louis Charles Pillivuyt recognized the huge advantages porcelain had over its earthenware and other porous product competitors. He set about creating his own individual combination of raw materials in an attempt to make the highest quality porcelain. His porcelain factory was founded in the Berry Region of central France (one of the two crucibles of the French porcelain industry), at Foecy. In 1853 Charles PILLIVUYT decided to move his factory to Mehun on Yevre near the channel of Berry about 250 km (200 miles) outside of Paris (between Bourges and Vierzon).

Pillivuyt has been making beautiful quality porcelain, according to artisanal traditions, using techniques that have not changed since the company was founded in 1818. It was a rapid success and PILLIVUYT was honoured with successive medals during World Fairs. His original work has inspired and has been refined by his successors to fulfill his original dream.

Unlike many makers of high-quality porcelain, Pillivuyt has continued to prosper.

The factory is now employee-owned and operated near the town of Mehun-sur-Yevre. The factory is an important part of the economy of this small town and employs over 300 of the local population.

Pillivuyt Porcelain, continues its long tradition of producing original French Culinary Porcelain. It is renowned for the tough, elegant oven to table porcelain still used in French restaurants today. This type of porcelain is the strongest ceramic in general use today.
