Syracuse China Norfolk Western Yellow Bird Cups
Vintage from Paul is delighted to offer these Syracuse China vintage cups with the Norfolk & Western Railroad Yellow Bird pattern b\ This pattern is shown in Richard Luckin’s Dining On Rails book, page 211. The backstamp indicates these cups were manufactured in March 1957.
Designed exclusively for the N&WRR and used on its name trains "Pocahontas" and "Powhatan Arrow," this pattern is called Yellow Bird. Its dramatic colors were planned to coordinate with the furnishings of the two trains.
The Syracuse China Norfolk Western Yellow Bird Cups stands 2-1/2 inches in height and measures 3-3/4 inches in diameter.
Each of the available Syracuse China Norfolk Western Yellow Bird Cups is in Mint condition no chips, cracks,or scratches. The banding is without defect, the colors vibrant. These pieces appear to have never been used.
BACKGROUND: The N&W's flagship passenger train was the "Powhatan Arrow," an all-coach consist that ran from 1946 until 1969 between Norfolk, Virginia and Cincinnati/Columbus, Ohio. The pride of the N&W and sought after by passengers, it was elegant, furbished with maroon livery trimmed in gold.
The Pocahontas was an overnight train between Norfolk, Virginia, and Cincinnati, Ohio, with a through-car to and from Chicago, Illinois. It consisted of Pullman cars and standard coaches. The Pocahontas ran from November 1926 until May 1971.
